This project serves as both a daycare center for staff and students and an Early Childcare research facility. Great attention to detail is placed on creating classroom layouts designed to allow teachers to support each other between classrooms. The buildings are intentionally designed to read as a research oriented childcare center or school. The wall of each class room that faces the play yard is open to the outside in order to allow for free flow between indoors and outdoors. Observation rooms with one-way glass are provided for researcher and student observation of class rooms and yards. The buildings are designed to educationally demonstrate passive building performance. Sunlight warming the space in winter, windows open in summer, skylights illuminating the interiors allowing electric lights to remain off. Implementation of these strategies allow for the creation of a cost effective Zero-Net Energy Facility.
