These innovative, strawbale buildings combine classic elements of Spanish-style design (appropriate to the Central Valley's Mediterranean climate) with practical, energy saving materials. Thick strawbale and concrete block walls provide ballistics and blast resistance appropriate to the security concerns of this law-enforcement facility. With the classic look of adobe, these super-insulated walls also serve as thermal heat-sinks to moderate interior temperatures. This construction technique results in a beautiful, secure, and energy saving facility. Visalia’s police substations will place the city at the forefront of environmentally appropriate “green” development. By volunteering to reduce the impact of built projects on the air, water and energy resources of our country, Visalia has made a very patriotic contribution. |
