STRAWBALE HOUSE Central Valley Foothills, CA

This artist's studio keeps its occupants happy and thermally comfortable inside sculptural strawbale walls. Located in the Central Valley's Coast Range foothills, this low-cost structure makes use of local, renewable materials and a creek-fed radiant cooling system. It requires no mechanical cooling and only an occasional wood fire to augment passive solar heating.

Local hardwoods, Asian-influenced joinery, and native landscaping combine to form this bioregionally appropriate structure. It is a perfect place for an artist to live, work and create.
