DQ UNIVERSITY STUDENT SERVICE & CHILDCARE CENTER Yolo County , CA

Currently under construction, this childcare and student services center is to be built in a renovated tilt-up concrete building at DQ University. The building will provide child care for preschool-age children of students and serve the needs of the local community. It is designed to accommodate two preschool classrooms compatible with the best childcare teaching approaches, as well as Native American child rearing values. The exterior graphic design is inspired by Eastern Woodland Indian Floral patterns.

The renovation places windows on the north and south sides of the building where they are easy to shade. In addition, the tilt up slab walls will be insulated on the outside so that the thermal mass of the concrete remains inside where it helps to cool the building. The landscaping will emphasize native trees and plants important to the economy of California’s Native American people.
