CEMETERY DISTRICT MASTER PLAN Davis, CA

The Goal of The Master Plan is to strengthen the cemetery’s qualities as an inviting space for remembrance, contemplation, and healing. This plan pays homage to the local community and its history as well as the Central Valley landscape that existed before. The landscape plan for as yet unused portions of the Davis Cemetery combines irrigated turf with interlacing peninsulas of drought tolerant native grassland and oak woodlands. While the landscape plan reduces the need for pesticides and intensive irrigation, the introduction of green burial as an option for plot holders protects soils and groundwater from harmful embalming chemicals. A new columbarium serves as a monument to the community and increases the cemetery's capacity in this fast growing region.
