In the early '80s, Principal Jonathan Hammond designed and built California’s first modern strawbale building. The cottage reintroduced this local farm byproduct as a renewable and energy-efficient building material. Sculptural walls provide superior thermal and acoustic insulation, evoking vernacular buildings of earth and stone.
