Nichols, Architect,
AIA
Mr. Nichols, with a master's degree in architecture from the University of Oregon,
and a bachelor's degree in linguistics from the University of California at Santa Cruz,
is a full-time member of the INDIGO architectural team. The U.S. Green Building Council
has certified him as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited
Professional. Mr. Nichols collaborated in the master planning, programming, design, and
construction administration of a newly completed police headquarters, featuring innovative
solar orientation and daylighting control strategies. He drafted the LEED performance
requirements for a design-build police headquarters, resulting in an award-winning LEED
certified facility for the client. He collaborated in the programming and design of two projects
currently under construction: a fire station and two police department precinct buildings.
For the precinct projects, Mr. Nichols developed a three part technical specification for a
strawbale insulation and finish system (SIFS) - the first of its kind. He has recently
completed a public safety facility feasibility study funded by a State of California
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The feasibility study team identified the
SIFS building envelope as desirable for their proposed public safety facility.
