Sikh Temple of Yuba City The new Gurdwara for the Guru Nanak Sikh Society integrates the basic tenets of universal harmony and environmental stewardship of Sikhism with the climate adapted bioregional design philosophy of Indigo Architects. The Sikh scripture, Guru Gronth Sahib, states that the ultimate purpose of human beings is to achieve a blissful state and to be in harmony with the Earth and all of God’s creation. This 3 story, 32,000 S.F. zero-net energy temple will demonstrate those principles by working with the forces of nature. The Temple includes amenities such as a gymnasium, day care, Sunday school; senior, youth and women’s centers, administrative offices and dormitories. The Langar Hall dining facility incorporates a full commercial kitchen along with spectacular views of the Sutter Buttes. Building systems, appropriate for the Central Valley climate, include Night-Sky cooling, solar heating, straw bale insulation, daylighting, natural ventilation, pervious paving and bioswales to achieve zero-net energy consumption.
